heya !!! the time it takes to make a rug depends on the design, obviously that 'appel' one took me a while, hehehe, I had 2 students helping me and it took us about 6 months, working 5 days a week.
I did some clay work in art school, I would so love to get back to that, I love that naked Raku !!! so you got me all 'fired up' now (nice pun actually ;-)

About Me:
I am a ceramic artist living in New Zealand. My studio and gallery are at our rural property just out of Christchurch. I specialize in alternative firing methods and high fire glazes. My current work "Sacred Vessels" is concentrating of the connection between earth, fire and spirit. When I am making this work, I feel this is when I connect with who I truly am. I shape the clay and feel the sensuous texture and find the finished smoothness brings a calm and gentle feeling. The process of firing with the naked raku method is exciting and requires fast working. I love the flames leaping and the smoke swirling, creating unique pieces of art that I am only a part of. After the excitement and the cooling process is over, the glaze is removed to find out what really lies beneath. This reveals itself over a period of time as the clay dries and the colours and marks become apparent. I love that I can turn the piece to reveal a new perspective, the patterns change from where I choose view it. I then spend time waxing and polishing the surface with a gentle motion to finish and complete the piece.

New Website

I have finally decided to change my website to a more gallery style so am in the process of loading all the info in. What a long job.... can't wait to get back out to my studio and make something for some relief. My admiration to all artists before me who have made the decision to make art their business, there are so many things to do to get it up and running and only one person to do it all. I am working through my new artist statement and while I am redefining my site I am finding it is helpi… Continue
